DETROIT VS EVERYBODY - How does our entrepreneurial & investment community stack up?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: All Access (Includes Fest Pass).

You have seen it in the headlines of every major newspaper across the nation – “is Detroit the next Silicon Valley?!” [insert eye roll here] Indeed, research on Michigan’s entrepreneurial and investment activity indicates steady and consistent growth and success in Michigan, with Detroit ranking as one of the fastest growing entrepreneurial and investment communities in the nation. And the potential for the state to shake up the national rankings even more is evident in the underlying data:  Michigan ranked 18th nationally in venture capital invested in 2015 despite having the highest research spending-to-venture capital investment ratio in the nation, the 7th highest number of PhDs in science and engineering, and 6th highest number of invention patents issued.
But how does the state and its largest city really stack up against other venture hotbeds across the nation?
Detroit based venture capitalists Jared Stasik (DVP), Brett deMarrais (Ludlow Ventures), and Adrian Ohmer (Invest Detroit) will square off on trends they are seeing in Detroit and in Silicon Valley with Emily Heintz, the author of the Michigan Venture Capital Association’s annual venture capital research report to debate whether an abundance of research, talent, and ideas translate into a thriving entrepreneurial and investment community.
